"Al Harafish" Star Ibrahim Al-Sharqawi Dies at 72

Ibrahim Al-Sharqawi, an acclaimed Egyptian actor whose long spanned career is filled with many on stage and screen performances, has died at the age of 72.

The late actor has passed away after a struggle with illness, which caused his health to deteriorate over the past few days.

In a statement, Mounir Makram, a member of Egyptian Actors' Syndicate, stated that the actor’s body was buried in his family cemetery, amid the attendee of his brother, actor Ahmed Al-Sharqawi.

Al-Sharqawi, born on April 3, 1948, received a Bachelor's degree from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts and was one of his class who achieved wide stardom, following late actor Farouk El-Fishawy.

The later actor presented many successful productions during his long artistic career, especially in the 80s, before moving away from the showbiz in the late 90s.

Al-Sharqawi was best known for his roles in "Al Harafish", "Al Halfout", and "Al Nemr wa Al Ontha".

He was also best known for his theatrical performances, most notable is the 1932 play "Majnoun Layla", which drew the filmmakers' to his acting talent, and the 1979 play "The Knight and the Prisoner",  starring late prominent actor Nour El-Sherif, and acclaimed actress Fardous Abdel Hamid.
