Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed on Friday the formation of the Palestinian technocratic committee tasked with administering the Gaza Strip, describing the move as a significant step toward advancing political and security arrangements related to the enclave.

According to Al Qahera News Channel, which cited informed sources, the newly formed committee will be headed by Ali Shaath and is expected to play a central role in managing Gaza during a transitional phase. Aboul Gheit praised the development, stressing its importance within the broader framework of ongoing efforts to address the consequences of the war in Gaza.

The Arab League chief also commended the mediation efforts led by Egypt and Qatar, alongside other regional and international intermediaries, aimed at de-escalating the situation and laying the groundwork for a sustainable political process.

Aboul Gheit emphasized that the establishment of the technocratic committee represents an important step toward implementing the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan, which seeks to end the war in Gaza and introduce a new administrative and security arrangement for the territory.

He noted that the committee’s formation reflects a pragmatic approach focused on governance, reconstruction, and stability, away from political divisions, and could help pave the way for addressing urgent humanitarian, economic, and infrastructure challenges facing Gaza.

The announcement comes amid heightened regional and international attention on Gaza’s future, as discussions continue over post-war governance, reconstruction, and the role of regional actors in supporting stability and preventing further escalation.
