Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit expressed deep concern over the serious and rapidly unfolding developments in Yemen, following the Southern Transitional Council’s failure to respond to the demands of the Presidential Leadership Council.
In a statement Tuesday, Abul Gheit voiced hope for an immediate halt to escalation in the eastern Yemeni governorates of Hadramout and Al-Mahra.
He urged all Arab states supporting legitimacy in Yemen to uphold the spirit of Arab solidarity at this critical juncture, exercise restraint and adhere to the unified Arab position backing Yemeni legitimacy, in line with successive resolutions of the Arab League Council on the crisis.
Abul Gheit reiterated his condemnation of any military moves aimed at imposing a separatist reality by force on the ground, warning that such actions threaten Yemen’s territorial unity and cause serious harm to the Southern Yemen issue, which must be addressed through dialogue rather than the imposition of faits accomplis.
He stressed that separatist tendencies undermine Arab national security.
