In a scene that confirms the Muslims’ cherishing and appreciation of Al-Azhar and its scholars, thousands of Indonesian students and scholars gathered to welcome and acclaim the scholars of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, who were keen to share with the Indonesian people the National Awakening Party’s (NAP [Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (PKB)]) 88th anniversary celebrations, as part of an official visit to the Islamic institutes and universities in Indonesia.
The celebration was attended by numerous prominent figures, religious scholars and Indonesian statesmen, who expressed their appreciation of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif and its scholars, the hub of knowledge and the destination of knowledge seekers. They acclaimed Al-Azhar as an academic edifice that has illuminated the world with its tolerant approaches and its enlightened moderate thought.
During the celebration, Dr. Osama Al-Hadidi, Executive Director of the Al-Azhar Global Center for Electronic Fatwa, delivered a speech in which he expressed his pleasure with the Indonesian people’s warm welcome and cherishing of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, the hub of knowledge and the destination of knowledge seekers.
He conveyed the greetings of HE Dr. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, to the leadership and people of Indonesia and outlined the firm relationship that has bound Al-Azhar with Indonesia throughout history, especially in the fields of education and Da’wah.
For his part, Dr. Salah Ash-Shami, member of the Heritage Review Office at Al-Azhar, spoke about the Ash'ari school of thought, the etiquette of seeking knowledge and the starting points, pillars and sources of knowledge seeking. Next, the scholars of Al-Azhar continued their tours that ended at Masjid Hubbul Wathan Islamic Center, where they led the crowds of worshipers in prayer, asking Allah to perpetuate security and peace among the Muslim nation and to safeguard it.
