The Al-Sadah Al-Ashraf Syndicate in Cairo organised a major celebration on Sunday evening to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Mawlid al-Nabi). The event was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Awqaf, Dr. Osama El-Azhari, alongside senior religious scholars and dignitaries.
Distinguished Attendance
The ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Al-Sadah Al-Ashraf Syndicate, was led by its president, Sayyid Mahmoud El-Sherif, who welcomed the minister and attendees. The gathering brought together key figures, including Dr. Mohamed Al-Duwaini, Deputy of Al-Azhar; Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayad, Egypt’s Grand Mufti; Dr. Mohamed Abdel Daim El-Gendy, Secretary-General of Al-Azhar’s Islamic Research Academy; and Sheikh Abdel Hadi El-Qasabi, Chief of Sufi Orders.
Other attendees included Dr. Mohamed Abu Hachim and Dr. Youssef Amer, both former Vice Presidents of Al-Azhar University; Dr. Sami El-Sherif, Secretary-General of the Association of Islamic Universities; Dr. Mohamed Mehanna, Professor of International Law at Al-Azhar University; and Sheikh Yousry Jabr, a senior Al-Azhar scholar.
Spiritual Reflections
In his welcoming speech, Sayyid Mahmoud El-Sherif highlighted the significance of the Mawlid in the hearts of Egyptians and Muslims worldwide, praising the Ministry of Awqaf for its efforts to promote religious awareness and counter extremist ideologies. He referred to the ministry’s “Correct Your Concepts” initiative as an important step in spreading moderation and sound religious understanding.
Minister El-Azhari, in his address, stressed that the greatest joy uniting humanity is celebrating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He noted that this year’s celebration carries special significance, marking 1,500 years since the Prophet’s birth—a rare milestone that occurs only once every century and a half.
Citing the Prophet’s saying, “Allah will send to this nation at the head of every century someone who will renew its religion,” El-Azhari said it is a blessing for Muslims to witness this era, which he described as a time of renewal and revival of Islamic values, ethics, and principles inspired by the Prophet’s example.
Calls for Unity and Prayer
The minister concluded his speech with prayers for blessings upon the Prophet’s family and scholars, asking God to grant Muslims deeper love for the Prophet, relieve the suffering of the Palestinian people, protect Al-Quds Al-Sharif, and preserve Egypt and all Muslim nations.
The event unfolded in a spirit of spirituality and joy, reflecting the profound reverence Muslims hold for the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
