Al Ahly made an ideal start to the defending campaign of their Egyptian League crown by snatching a narrow victory over Smouha in the Egyptian Premier League opening game on Monday (1-0).

The Red Devils began the game so fiercely as early as after only eleven minutes when midfielder Ramadan Sobhi put his side ahead when he received a fine pass from Marwan Mohsen, putting him through one-on-one position, and he planted the ball into the net.

Smouha's keeper El-Hany Soliman brought into action as his save denied Sobhi's header from getting into his net.

Smouha came close to net the equalizer in the 40th minute after defender Islam Gamal fired an unstoppable shot towards El-Shenawy, whose fine save turned the ball into a corner.

A few seconds later, El-Shenawy brought into action for the second time as his great save denied Smoha's serious opportunity towards the Red Devils goal.

The Egyptian League champions hit Hossam Hassan's side's post when Ali Maâloul unleashed an unstoppable shot in the 58th minute.

It is worth mentioning that the Red Devils won their fourth Egyptian Premier League title in a row and their 41st domestic trophy overall with one game to spare in July.
