Al Ahly’s management has decided to impose severe financial penalties on the team's coaching staff, led by Swiss manager Marcel Koller, as well as the players, following the club’s exit from the CAF Champions League semi-finals against South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
The match at Cairo International Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw, allowing Sundowns to advance to the final after the first-leg tie in South Africa ended goalless.
Heavy Financial Penalties Imposed on Al Ahly Players and Staff
According to sources at Al-Watan Sport, Mahmoud El-Khatib, head of football operations at Al Ahly, instructed Sporting Director Mohamed Ramadan to enforce additional heavy fines on both players and the coaching team, beyond the penalties already stipulated in the club’s internal regulations.
It was decided that 10% would be deducted from the players' current season earnings, depending on each player’s contract value. The fines are estimated to range between EGP 500,000 and EGP 1 million per player.
Furthermore, the club ordered a deduction of two months' salary from the entire coaching staff, including Head Coach Marcel Koller.
Koller’s Future at Al Ahly Under Review
Al Ahly’s football management committee is set to hold a meeting soon to determine Koller’s future with the club and discuss the possibility of appointing a new head coach ahead of their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
