Ain Shams University won five gold, one silver, and one bronze medals during the participation of the university students' delegation at the first African Universities Youth Week, which ran from 19 to 25 October at Aswan University.
“Ain Shams University is keen to provide all means of support and qualification for its students participating in the competitions to be the best ambassadors for their university and country, especially in light of this important event, which is being held for the first time at the level of the African continent,"he University President, Dr. Mahmoud El-Matini, said.
"The event was held in conjunction with Egypt's presidency of the African Union and the declaration of Aswan Governorate, the capital of African youth for 2019,” Dr. El-Matini, added.
Dr. Abdul Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, pointed out that first-year Faculty of Engineering student John Morcos Abdu obtained two gold medals after ranking in the first place in the “100m freestyle” and in the “100m breaststroke”.
In addition to, third-year Faculty of Engineering student Mohammed Fathi Mohamed Rizk obtained a gold medal after ranking first place in “inventions and innovations”.
Also, Omar Gamal Abdel Aziz, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Computers and Information, won the gold medal in the software field with his idea of an electronic application used for reviving Egypt's tourism.
On the other hand, third-year Faculty of Arts student Amal Ashraf Ahmed Abdullah won the gold medal after ranking first place in the competition for short films.
Moreover, Jihad Khalid Noah Ali received the silver medal after ranking second place in the field of photography.
Meanwhile, Faculty of Specific Education student Asmaa Abdel Hamid Abdel Rahman received the bronze medal after raking third place in the field of an oil painting.
Furthermore, the university obtained the best university cup for scientific activities.
About 600 students from 20 African universities and 23 Egyptian universities participated in the first African Universities Youth Week.
