The Afghanistan–Pakistan border has witnessed a sharp military escalation after Afghan sources claimed Kabul’s forces seized 12 Pakistani military positions during armed clashes along the frontier.
According to security sources cited by RT Arabic, Afghan forces reportedly took control of Pakistani guard posts in the Goshta area of Nangarhar province, as well as additional positions near the disputed Durand Line — a border that Kabul has historically refused to formally recognize.
An Afghan military official was quoted as saying that “our forces have taken control of 12 Pakistani military points and operations are ongoing.”
Reports indicated that heavy fighting erupted across six border provinces: Nangarhar, Nuristan, Kunar, Khost, Paktia, and Paktika. There has been no confirmed information so far regarding casualties.
Pakistan, however, strongly rejected the move. Its Ministry of Information said the Afghan Taliban had carried out an “unjustified action” along the border, adding that Pakistani forces responded “immediately and effectively.”
The escalation comes only days after Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghanistan that Islamabad said targeted militants. Kabul condemned those strikes as a violation of its sovereignty, raising fears that the latest clashes could push the two neighbors toward a broader confrontation.
