AFCON 2021 Could Be Cancelled - Reports

Some Egyptian and African reports claimed on Monday that the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) could face cancellation due to three reasons.

The former head coach of the Confederation of the African Football (CAF) said in a televised statement that stadiums in Cameroon, which is scheduled to host the tournament, are not ready and if the African county have not able to host the tournament, it will be cancelled.

Also reports referred the cancellation could be happened due to three reasons.

The reasons are as follows:

1. Omicron Covid-19 Variant

The new Omicron coronavirus Variant, which initially spread out in South Africa, could be the first reason why the African tournament would not take place in January.

2. Cameroon is Not Ready

The reports, which claimed that Cameroon is not ready yet to host the tournament, could push the football's governing body in Africa to cancel it.

The African country announced last week that the Olympic stadium, scheduled to host the opening match and final, is not ready yet.

3. FIFA Club World Cup

The date of the FIFA Club world Cup, due to take place from February 3 till 12, will be the third reason for the tournament cancellation.
