Actress Kelly Preston, John Travolta's Wife, Dies at 57

American actress Kelly Preston, known for her roles in "Jerry Maguire" and "Twins", has died aged 57 after battling breast cancer for nearly two years, her husband, actor John Travolta said late Sunday.

Travolta announced her death in a lengthy post on Instagram, saying: "It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many,"

He added: "My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered,".

"I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal." Travolta concluded.

Preston's final film role was in the 2018 film "Gotti" in which she played Victoria Gotti, the wife of Mafia boss John Gotti, who was portrayed on screen by Travolta.

Kelly Kamalelehua Smith, born on October 13, 1962, was better known by her stage name Kelly Preston. She was an American actress and model.

Preston had a lengthy acting career in movies and television, starring in over sixty television and film productions.

Furthermore, she collaborated with her husband in many films including the 2000 film "Battlefield Earth", as well as with Kevin Costner in the 1999 film "For the Love of the Game", and in Maroon 5’s 2004 music video "She Will Be Loved".

As a child, Preston lived in Iraq, and Australia, where she was discovered at 16 by a fashion photographer who helped her get work in commercials and other small parts.

He arranged her first film audition for the role of "Emmeline" in "The Blue Lagoon" (1980), which she lost to Brooke Shields, which was when she decided to change her last name to Preston.

In 1985, Preston starred in her first prominent film roles, first as Marilyn McCauley in the rom-com film "Mischief", then in another rom-com film, "Secret Admirer".

She was also best known for her roles in the 1986 film "SpaceCamp", in the1988 film "Twins" with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, in the 1996 film "Jerry Maguire" with Tom Cruise, in the 1999 film "For Love of the Game" with Kevin Costner, in the 1998 film "Holy Man" with Eddie Murphy and Jeff Goldblum.

Preston was previously married to actor Kevin Gage from 1985 until their porce in 1987. She was briefly engaged to Charlie Sheen in 1990.

The couple first met in 1987 while filming "The Experts", and tied the knot in 1991. They held their first wedding ceremony in Paris.

However, their first marriage was considered invalid due to it being performed by a French Scientology minister (both Preston and Travolta are Scientologists). They held a second ceremony was on September 12 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The couple had three children, two sons and a daughter. On January 2, 2009, The duo's elder son, Jett, who suffered from Kawasaki disease as an infant and had a history of seizures, passed away aged 16 in January 2009 after a seizure at the family’s holiday home in the Bahamas.
