Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the Arab League, met the United Nations (UN) Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland to discuss a number of regional issues, especially the Palestinian file.
The meeting dealt with recent developments in Jerusalem and Gaza, the overall situation in Palestine and Israel, and ways and opportunities to revive political talks between the two sides.
during the meeting, Aboul Gheit expressed concern about the recent escalation in Jerusalem, blaming the Israeli authorities that sought to impose new restrictions on the Palestinians in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He also welcomed the efforts of the the United Nations (UN) Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process to restore calm in Jerusalem and end the escalation with Gaza Strip.
Aboul Gheit stressed the importance of the international support for the Palestinian Authority in this difficult phase, especially in light of the serious economic and social consequences of the Corona pandemic, and the economic deterioration that the Palestinians have suffered from due to the restrictions imposed by the occupation forces on the economic activity.
