Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit met Thursday with General Patrick Gauchat, head of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), to discuss escalating tensions along the borders of Israel, Lebanon, and Syria.
During the meeting at the Arab League headquarters, Aboul Gheit warned that Israel’s attempts to impose a "new fait accompli" by refusing to withdraw from occupied territories and continuing hostile actions constitute a grave threat to stability across the entire region.
Aboul Gheit emphasized that achieving lasting security requires Israel’s complete withdrawal from all occupied Arab lands. He also praised the "important role" played by the United Nations in de-escalating conflicts and upholding international law concerning the territorial integrity of states.
The discussions included a detailed briefing on current field operations and the "tense situation" currently observed along the regional borders.
