Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of Arab league, expressed deep concern over the armed clashes that have taken place in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, over the past two days. These clashes have terrorized civilians, threatened the lives of peaceful residents, and disrupted daily life.
Gamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General of the Arab League, conveyed Aboul Gheit call to all active parties in Libya to de-escalate, assume national responsibility, and resort to dialogue. He stressed that these unfortunate developments, with their recurrence, once again highlight the urgent need to move forward on the path of comprehensive national consensus to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people for security and stability.
Rushdi quoted the Secretary-General as affirming the Arab League's commitment to shouldering its inherent responsibilities towards Libya and supporting all efforts aimed at ending the crisis through a peaceful, inclusive Libyan solution.
