The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States issued a stinging rebuke of Iran on Sunday, condemning what he described as a "reckless and unjustified" escalation against civilian targets and vital infrastructure in the Gulf region.

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the head of the Cairo-based organization, warned that Tehran’s recent actions represent a "grave miscalculation" and urged Iranian leadership to immediately reconsider its regional strategy.

In a statement released by his office, Aboul Gheit’s spokesperson, Gamal Roshdy, said the Secretary-General characterized the strikes as "aggression against peoples." Roshdy added that the targeting of critical infrastructure is placing the Middle East on an "extremely dangerous trajectory."

"This uncalculated escalation against populations and civilian installations... will only deepen hatred and hostility across the region," Roshdy said.

The Arab League’s statement framed the escalation as a "desperate strategy" by Tehran, specifically noting that the targets included states that have neither participated in nor sought out the ongoing regional conflicts.

The condemnation comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf, a critical corridor for global energy supplies. While the statement did not specify the exact nature of the targets hit, the reference to "vital facilities" typically pertains to oil, desalination, or power infrastructure.

Aboul Gheit confirmed that the League is closely monitoring developments and remains in contact with regional stakeholders.
