Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, held a phone call with Lebanese President Nawaf Salam, voicing support for Beirut’s decision to prohibit the military and security activities of Hezbollah and require the group to hand over its weapons to the state.
In a statement, the Arab League said Aboul Gheit described the move as a practical step toward implementing an arms control plan approved by the Lebanese government and carried out by the army, ensuring that decisions of war and peace rest solely with state institutions.
He also condemned what he called Israeli escalation against Lebanon, urging all sides to adhere to a November 2024 cessation of hostilities agreement and to safeguard Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability.
