Mohamed Abou El-Enein, Deputy Speaker of Egypt’s House of Representatives and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean hailed President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as “the voice of wisdom in an era of global division” during his address to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) general assembly in Geneva, attended by delegates from 183 national parliaments.

Speaking on behalf of the Union for the Mediterranean Parliament, which includes 43 member states, Abou El-Enein delivered a strong message on the “Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement”, signed last week to end the war in Gaza.

He emphasized that the accord, brokered jointly by Egypt, the United States, and Qatar, demonstrated that “the will for dialogue is stronger than the sound of weapons.”

“President El-Sisi has embodied, through his balanced vision, Egypt’s historic commitment to regional and global security, political solutions, and the protection of peace,” Abou El-Enein said. “He stands as the voice of wisdom in an age marked by division.”

Abou El-Enein described the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement as a historic diplomatic achievement, proving that dialogue and cooperation can prevail over conflict. He stressed that peace is not merely a political arrangement but a “human value system based on justice and mutual respect.”

The Egyptian MP added that the agreement opens the door to lasting peace and prosperity in the Middle East, creating new opportunities for trade, investment, education, and technology, and strengthening regional integration.

Abou El-Enein also extended appreciation to U.S. President Donald Trump, praising his “action-oriented approach to peace” and leadership in facilitating the Sharm El-Sheikh initiative.

“From this platform, we send a parliamentary message to both President El-Sisi and President Trump,” he said. “We salute the leaders who gathered in Sharm El-Sheikh to affirm that peace is not a slogan but a commitment.”

He called on both Israeli and Palestinian parties to honor their commitments under the peace accord, warning that any delay in implementation would amount to “a postponement of peace.” He also reiterated support for a two-state solution as the foundation for a new era of cooperation and human progress.

Concluding his remarks, Abou El-Enein urged global parliaments to play a more active role in sustaining peace efforts rather than “watching history unfold from a distance.”

He called for a broad international parliamentary mobilization to reinforce peace and reaffirm solidarity with the Palestinian people, stressing that “true peace means upholding human dignity.”
