The Foreign Minister Badr Badr Abdelatty expressed Egypt's deep concerns on Thursday morning regarding the escalating humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
Abdelatty's remarks came during a meeting with Ramtane Lamamra, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan, where they deliberated on the latest developments related to the crisis and explored potential solutions.
According to Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister reaffirmed Egypt's dedication to actively engage in various regional and international efforts aimed at halting hostilities, resolving the situation in Sudan, and alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people. He stressed that the primary aim of Egypt's involvement is to protect Sudan's interests while upholding its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Abdelatty also highlighted Egypt's initiatives to reduce the conflict and restore peace in Sudan, mentioning Egypt's hosting of the Sudan Neighboring Countries Summit in July of the previous year, as well as the assembly of Sudanese political and civil groups scheduled for July 2024.
Moreover, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to providing extensive support for the large number of displaced persons from Sudan currently in Egypt, which includes health and educational services, among other essential needs.
