A seven-day-old baby died from the extreme cold in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza

Palestinian media reported that a seven-day-old Palestinian baby died from the extreme cold in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip.

The Civil Defense in Gaza stated that the storm caused extensive damage to temporary shelters, with thousands of tents completely destroyed. They noted that every storm turns into a humanitarian disaster due to the restrictions on the entry of building materials and the obstruction of reconstruction efforts.

The Gaza Municipality stated that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is becoming increasingly complex as a result of the storm affecting the region, amidst a severe shortage of resources and capabilities to address its consequences.

The municipality explained that the limited resources directly contribute to exacerbating the suffering of displaced persons and residents, especially given the widespread destruction of infrastructure, which hinders rainwater drainage and intensifies the crisis.

They added that the accumulation of rainwater mixed with sewage has led to the spread of diseases, posing a serious health threat to the population, particularly in shelters and densely populated areas.

The Gaza Municipality stressed its urgent need for technical and humanitarian support to reduce health and environmental risks and alleviate the suffering of citizens under the current circumstances.
