A police unit reported that a gunman killed eight people in a mall north of Dallas, Texas.
Hundreds of people were evacuated from the mall in Allen City. Witnesses described a man shooting indiscriminately at bystanders.
Police said they shot the gunman, killing him, and believe he was alone.

Some of the victims are believed to be children. At least seven people were taken to hospital where they received treatment, three of whom are in critical condition.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the shooting an "unspeakable tragedy." He said the state is ready to provide any assistance to local authorities.
