Nine passengers were injured on a Ryanair flight bound for Milan after the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in southern Germany late Wednesday night due to extreme turbulence caused by a thunderstorm, according to German police.
The incident occurred when severe weather conditions prompted the pilot to divert and land at Memmingen Airport, located about 113 kilometers west of Munich, authorities in Bavaria confirmed in an official statement.
Despite the injuries, the aircraft landed safely. Emergency responders treated the injured passengers on site, while the remaining travelers disembarked without further incident.
Due to local aviation restrictions, the flight was not permitted to continue from Memmingen. Ryanair arranged bus transportation to Milan for the affected passengers as a contingency.
