At least eight people were killed and two others injured after an explosion ripped through a fireworks store in eastern China on Sunday, according to the state run Xinhua News Agency.
The blast occurred in Dong’an Village in Jiangsu province and was followed by a fire, authorities said. Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene to contain the flames and assist victims.
The two injured individuals suffered minor burns and were reported to be in stable condition.
Local security authorities have detained several individuals for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation aimed at determining the cause of the explosion and assigning responsibility.
Fireworks related incidents remain a safety concern in parts of China, particularly in regions where the storage and sale of pyrotechnic materials require strict regulatory oversight. Officials have not yet released further details about the circumstances leading to the deadly blast.
