Chinese authorities have reported the tragic death of eight people and the injury of five others after a car struck pedestrians in a major city in central China on Saturday.
The incident took place in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, around 12:10 AM, but it remains unclear whether the collision was intentional.
The Kaifu District police released a statement confirming the occurrence: "A car struck pedestrians," they noted, without providing further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The suspect, a 55-year-old resident of the area, has been apprehended by the police, and an investigation is currently underway.
China has a history of frequent road accidents, raising ongoing concerns about road safety.
