A powerful 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Canada’s Yukon territory on Saturday afternoon, the US Geological Survey reported.
The quake occurred roughly 250 kilometers west of Whitehorse, near the Alaska border. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, no casualties or property damage were recorded.
Around twenty aftershocks followed over two hours.
Canadian media noted that the quake struck an uninhabited area. The epicenter was located approximately 130 kilometers from the small community of Haines Junction, home to about 1,000 residents.
