Seven Pakistani soldiers, including a captain, were killed in a roadside bomb explosion targeting a security convoy in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday, according to a statement from the Pakistani army.
This attack marks an escalation in armed assaults on security forces.
The attack occurred in the Lakki Marwat area, situated in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan.
The Pakistani military emphasized its resolve to eradicate the threat of terrorism in its statement: "Security forces are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism."
While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, suspicions fall on the Pakistani Taliban, or Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has a significant presence in the region.
The TTP has gained strength since the Afghan Taliban's takeover of Kabul in 2021, as reported by the Associated Press.
