Seven Nigerian soldiers were killed by a landmine explosion in the northeast region of the country, an area known for terrorist activity by the ISIS-affiliated group, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

This information was confirmed by militia leaders engaged in combat against the terrorists.

According to militia leaders who spoke to AFP, the soldiers were en route to Kukawa when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated and destroyed their truck.

Babakura Kolo, a militia leader, stated, "The seven soldiers in the truck were killed by the explosion, which occurred in the village of Bawarti."

Ibrahim Liman, another militia leader, corroborated the details of the explosion and the death toll. Both leaders attributed the attack to ISWAP.

The ongoing conflict in northeastern Nigeria has led to the deaths of about 40,000 people and displaced over two million from their homes.
