7 Coronavirus Cases Reported among Egypt's Football Delegation amid AFCON

Seven Coronavirus cases were reported among the delegation of the Egyptian National Football Team amid the kick off of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Mohamed Abu El Ela, the head of the medical team announced on Friday, as the delegation was set to fly to Cameroon.

He added that Mohamed Salah, the delegation's administrator, and Ali Mohamed Ali, the member of the administrative team, tested positive for COVID-19. Both were quarantined.

Moreover, one of the assistant workers, the team's performance analyst , and the Physical Rehabilitation Therapist tested positive for the virus. Their tests were conducted before the final gathering of the team's amid traveling to Cameroon, therefore, they didn't join the final stage of trainings.

The Winger Ibrahim Adel also contracted COVID-19, alongside the previously announced infections of the goalkeeper Mohamed Abu Gabal, and the Goalkeeping Coach Essam El Hadary.

Based on that, the coach of the national team called Marawan Hamdy, and Ibrahim Adel who were listed as the team's backups, to fill the empty slots of the two infected players.

The delegation also called Shaa'ban Bastawy, the PR manager of the team, and Amr Salman, the administrator of Egypt's National Team of Futsal to join delegation to Cameroon.
