A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 struck off the coast of eastern Japan near the Noda region on Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The USGS said the earthquake occurred offshore at a depth of approximately 19.3 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface. The tremor was felt in nearby coastal areas, though no immediate reports of casualties or material damage were issued at the time of the announcement.
Japanese authorities continued to monitor the situation closely following the quake, while emergency agencies assessed any potential impact. No tsunami warning was reported in connection with the earthquake.
Japan is located along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” one of the most seismically active zones in the world, and regularly experiences earthquakes of varying intensity.
