Turkish authorities reported on Saturday that six people were killed and five others injured, one critically, in a fire that broke out at a perfume warehouse in Dilovasi, northwestern Turkey.
Kocaeli Governor Ilhami Aktas told Turkish state media that the fire erupted around 9 a.m., claiming six lives. One of the injured is in critical condition due to severe burns, while the other four are relatively stable and receiving treatment.
The governor added that firefighters quickly controlled the blaze, extinguished it, and carried out cooling operations. Investigations are underway in coordination with the prosecutor’s office to determine the cause of the fire.
The fire reportedly engulfed two floors of a building used as both a warehouse and perfume factory. Images broadcast by Turkish media showed flames consuming the structure.
An eyewitness told private broadcaster NTV: “There was an explosion around 9 a.m. I looked from my balcony and saw a colleague’s clothes on fire. I used a garden hose to put out the flames. Then I saw the factory engulfed in flames and heard screams.”
Dilovasi, an industrial town located about 70 kilometers southeast of Istanbul, hosts numerous factories and warehouses.
