Six workers were killed after being struck by a freight train in Heilongjiang Province, northeast China, on Tuesday.

The accident, reported by the China Railway Group, occurred in the early hours of the morning.

According to the state news agency Xinhua, two of the workers died instantly at the scene, while the other four succumbed to their injuries despite rescue efforts.

The incident took place at nearly 1:55 AM as the workers were on a railway track in the outskirts of Jiamusi City.

Railway accidents, though less common, remain a significant concern in China, which boasts one of the world's largest and busiest rail networks.

The country has invested heavily in rail infrastructure, prioritizing both freight and passenger services to enhance connectivity across its vast territory.

Heilongjiang Province, located in the northeastern part of China, is a crucial region for the country’s rail network due to its strategic position and economic activities, particularly in agriculture and heavy industry.

Jiamusi City, where the incident occurred, is a key transportation hub in the province.
