The management of the 5th edition of the Aswan International Women Film Festival (AIWF) postponed its activities until further notice, which slated to take place from May 28 to June 2.
The decision is based on the decision of Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to suspend artistic festivals as precautionary measures taken to combat the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The AIWF management stated that the new date will be announced as soon as Madbouly issues a decision to resume activities, in coordination with the Supreme Committee for Festivals.
They added that all arrangements for the fifth session have been completed.
On May 5, the Prime Minister imposed new restrictions to control the epidemiological situation during the third wave, which is taking effect from 6 to 21 May, including during the Eid El-Fitr holiday.
The restrictions include shutting all kinds of stores, shops, malls, clubs, cafes, and restaurants from 9 PM while the delivery service will be available 24 hours a day.
Furthermore, all kinds of entertaining activities, concerts, gatherings, festivals, and conferences will be suspended and the public gardens, parks, beaches will be closed.
Moreover, Eid prayers will be performed, with no children allowed, in the mosques that have been previously authorized to host Friday prayers, under strict COVID-19 preventive measures, including wearing facial masks, as well as maintaining social distancing codes.
