Yemen continues to reel under the impact of a low-pressure weather system for the fourth consecutive day, with flash floods sweeping through displacement camps in Marib province, leaving an estimated 56,000 people homeless, according to initial government figures.

The government’s Displacement Camps Management Unit reported that 8,684 displaced families, around 56,000 individuals, were affected by heavy rainfall, flash floods, and windstorms across several districts.

Data collection is still underway to provide a comprehensive assessment of the damage.

Marib city recorded the highest number of affected displaced families, followed by Al-Wadi, Raghwan, and Harib districts. Local authorities confirmed that emergency committees have begun field operations to rescue stranded families, deliver urgent relief, and address widespread destruction caused by the severe weather.

Abd Rabbo Miftah, Deputy Governor of Marib and head of the Emergency Committee, stated that all field teams and service units were mobilised to reach affected camps and flood-hit areas. The emergency response includes rescue operations, damage assessments, road clearance, flood barrier construction, and the restoration of essential services.

He appealed to UN agencies, international organisations, and humanitarian partners for swift intervention to confront the unfolding disaster and provide urgent shelter and relief assistance to displaced families.
