In August 2023, the Palestinian Center for Prisoners Studies (PCPS) reported that Israeli occupation forces detained a total of 510 Palestinians, which included 44 children and seven women. These arrests were said to have increased following acts of resistance carried out by Palestinians in response to Israeli actions and attacks.
Israeli forces conducted raids in various areas of occupied Palestine, targeting numerous homes with arbitrary searches, causing property damage, and assaulting residents.
Currently, there are approximately 5,100 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons, among them 165 children, 33 women, and 1,300 administrative detainees.
Jerusalem had the highest rate of detentions, accounting for more than 33% of the total, with Israeli forces arresting 145 Palestinians, including five women and 23 children. Among the detained children was a 14-year-old boy named Abd Al-Rahman Al-Zaghal, who was taken into custody after sustaining critical injuries.
According to Riyad Al-Ashqar, the Director of PCPS, the Israeli occupation has intensified its attacks on the people of Jerusalem through various means, particularly through increased detention.
In addition, Israeli occupation courts issued a number of deportation, house arrest, and administrative detention orders against Palestinians in Jerusalem. These included 24 deportation orders that prevented Palestinians from visiting Al-Aqsa Mosque or occupied Jerusalem, 21 house arrest orders for Palestinian children and women, and six administrative detention orders for others.
After Jerusalem, Hebron experienced significant detention campaigns, resulting in the arrest of over 112 Palestinian individuals, including 25 children and three females.
