Mexico has reported the killing of five people following a gunfire attack carried out by assailants on motorcycles on the outskirts of the city of Puebla.

According to Mexican newspaper La Expansión, the police in the city of Puebla mentioned that the victims were apparently guarding gas trucks when the attack occurred, hinting at a possible intention of fuel theft by the assailants.

Located directly east of Mexico City, Puebla has long suffered from gang activities focused on fuel theft from governmental pipelines.

Shootout incidents between gangs and authorities are common occurrences in the region.

This incident underscores the persistent issue of fuel theft and the violent means employed by gangs to control and protect their illicit operations, posing a significant challenge to law enforcement agencies in the region.
