There’s no doubt that the foods mothers eat are a huge part of nourishing themselves and their babies. So, here are 5 foods to avoid eating during pregnancy according to Obstetrics and Gynecology Consultant, Dr. Samar Ahmed Nafady
1. Cinnamon
Eating a lot of cinnamon can be toxic especially if you have liver problems. Cinnamon can also cause early contractions during pregnancy and thus, pregnant women should avoid it.

2. Chili peppers
Make sure to avoid chili peppers or any spicy foods seeing as they can cause digestion problems like diarrhea. Also pregnant women are prone to heart burn which spicy foods only increases.

3. Processed meat
All kinds of processed meats like cold cuts, sausages, hot dogs and burger patties are off limits during pregnancy that’s because raw and cured meats could have bacteria and parasites, not to mention contamination.

4. Soft drinks
Soft drinks have a lot of caffeine and additives. Caffeine enters the bloodstream and reaches the baby directly through the placenta, it is also toxic to developing babies and an intake above 300mg of it can even lead to a miscarriage. In addition, additives and artificial preservatives are unhealthy especially for pregnant women.

5. Fenugreek
It is important to avoid fenugreek during pregnancy seeing as it is considered a uterine stimulant that can cause early contractions.
