The stations of the National Seismological Network of the National Institute for Astronomical Research recorded an earthquake measuring 4.57 on the Richter scale, 37 km northeast of Hurghada, the capital city of the Red Sea Governorate.
The institute said in a press statement that the earthquake occurred at exactly 01:58 am local time.
The statement stressed that the earthquake did not cause any loss of life or property.
Dr. Jad Al-Qadi, head of the National Institute for Astronomical Research, confirms that Egypt is far from entering the earthquake belt.
Dr.Al-Qadi added that there are 7 known seismic belts in the world and Egypt is far from them, but Egypt's proximity to some seismically active areas such as the Gulf of Aqaba, the Gulf of Suez, and the Red Sea makes it affected by some earthquakes of medium strength.
