The Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) continues its prestigious 45th edition by screening the Russian film Postmarks on Wednesday, 20 November.
Directed by Natalia Nazarova, the film competes in the international category. It showcases a compelling narrative of resilience and transformation.
Nazarova, a GITIS graduate and acclaimed filmmaker, made her directorial debut in 2012 with Daughter, which won the FIPRESCI prize at the Warsaw International Film Festival.
Her latest work, Postmarks, further solidifies her reputation for crafting poignant and evocative cinema.
Set to screen at 3:30 PM in the Grand Hall of the Cairo Opera House, the 103-minute drama tells the story of Yana (Alina Khojevanova), a post office worker with cerebral palsy, who collects stamps and dreams of her father’s return from the sea.
Her life turns unexpectedly when a sailor, Petr (Maksim Stoyanov), arrives with life-altering news.
Khojevanova delivers a deeply convincing portrayal of Yana, with a performance so authentic it blurs the line between fiction and reality.
The Cairo International Film Festival, running until 22 November, features 190 films from 72 countries, including 16 red carpet events, 37 world premieres, 8 international premieres, and 119 regional screenings for the Middle East and Africa.
As the only festival in the Arab world and Africa classified as a Category A event by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), CIFF remains a cornerstone of global cinematic excellence.
