4.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Sharm El-Sheikh

The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) detected an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale, Thursday, 3 kilometers from the city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Taha Rabeh, head of the institute, explained in statements to local Egyptian media that citizens felt the strong tremor in the early hours of this morning, noting that the institute will issue a statement soon revealing additional details about the earthquake.

The head of the National Institute confirmed that the institute had not received any reports of injuries.

Some local social media pages in Sharm El-Sheikh circulated the news of the earthquake, as the “Sharm El-Sheikh Official Forum” page published a post that read, “A strong earthquake in Sharm, and thank God it passed safely.”

The earthquake was also felt the city of Nuweiba, with a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale.
