On Sunday, at least 40 people were killed and dozens injured in a bomb explosion during a gathering of an extremist Islamic party in northeastern Pakistan, as reported by the police.
Pakistan's Geo TV reported that the death toll reached 40.
Aftab Ahmad Gandapur, the Inspector General of Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, situated on the border with Afghanistan, stated that "a prominent official of the party was supposed to deliver a speech, but before his arrival, a bomb exploded."
Pakistan has been witnessing continuous acts of violence and explosions attributed to extremist groups.
Last week, a police officer was killed, and others were injured in an explosion in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the northwest of the country.
Aftab Ahmad Jandaboor, the Inspector General of Police for the province, stated that the incident occurred at a mosque located in a remote area in the tribal region of Khyber, where a suicide bomber detonated himself after being stopped by the police at the mosque's entrance.
Rescue teams, which rushed to the site after the explosion, reported that a part of the mosque also collapsed due to the blast.
