Four people died and 15 others were injured after a platform collapsed at an election rally for Mexican presidential candidate Jorge Álvarez Máynez in northern Mexico.

The incident was confirmed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Wednesday.

The collapse happened during a campaign event in Nuevo León, as reported by the state’s governor, Samuel García.

The platform gave way, causing the devastating casualties. President López Obrador conveyed the grim toll via a message on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), citing figures provided by Governor García.

Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene, providing medical assistance and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.

The cause of the platform collapse is under investigation, with authorities working to determine the factors that led to the structural failure.
