On Saturday, Colombian authorities, finally, found 4 missing children in the Amazon after a 40-day of successive search.
The four missing children were found alive and healthy, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced.
“Their learning from indigenous families and their learning of living in the jungle has saved them,” Petro said.
Petro said the children were all together when they were found, adding they had demonstrated an example of “total survival that will be remembered in history.”
“They are children of the jungle and now they are children of Colombia,” he added.
Moreover, the Colombian president tweeted an image for the search crews with the children in a forest clearing,
He described the event as: “A joy for the whole country!”
The children were examined by doctors before being flown out by the Colombian Air Force.
“We hope that tomorrow they will be treated at the military hospital,” Defense Minister Ivan Velasquez said earlier Friday.
Lesly Jacobombaire Mucutuy, Soleiny Jacobombaire Mucutuy, Tien Ranoque Mucutuy, and infant Cristin Ranoque Mucutuy were stranded in the jungle on May 1.
They survived a deadly plane crash that left behind three casualties: the mother, the pilot, and the indigenous leader.
