At least 33 people have died since Friday due to heavy rains and floods in Afghanistan, according to an official from the country's Natural Disaster Management Authority announced on Sunday, April 14.
Around 20 of Afghanistan's 34 provinces, including Kabul, have experienced high levels of precipitation.
Jenan Sayeq, a spokesperson for the Natural Disaster Management Authority, stated, "According to preliminary information, the floods since Friday have caused severe human and financial losses. 33 people have died and 27 others have been injured."
He added that most of the deaths were due to the collapse of house roofs.
The rains also destroyed approximately 600 homes either entirely or partially and washed away 580 kilometers of roads.
About 800 hectares of farmland were submerged, and 200 livestock were lost due to the floods.
These floods are hitting almost the entire country this spring, which marks the rainy season in Afghanistan.
Weather forecasts for the coming week indicate more rainfall in the country, especially in the provinces of Kabul, Ghazni (central east), Nangarhar (east), and Kandahar (south).
Around 60 people have died in the past three weeks due to heavy rains.
