The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reported that 300,000 Syrian refugees have returned to Syria from Lebanon following a general amnesty issued by Syrian authorities.

This announcement came during a session of Lebanon’s Parliamentary Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Committee, where officials discussed the current state of Syrian refugees and border developments.

The session focused on understanding the realities at the Lebanese-Syrian border and evaluating the status of Syrian refugees whose reasons for remaining in Lebanon have diminished.

Representatives from the Lebanese Army, the Ministry of Social Affairs, UNHCR, and other security agencies provided updates on the situation.

UNHCR officials highlighted that a significant number of Syrian refugees have returned permanently after initial visits to evaluate conditions.

These individuals have decided not to return to Lebanon, signaling progress in the repatriation process.

The UNHCR also shared plans to support refugees who remain in Syria after their return.

The agency is implementing new programs funded to provide material and financial aid, ensuring these individuals can rebuild their lives in their homeland.

Lebanon hosts over two million Syrian refugees, creating immense pressure on the country's resources.
