The Israeli military announced on Saturday that around 300,000 individuals have evacuated from the eastern neighborhoods of Rafah city in the southern Gaza Strip since evacuation orders were issued on May 6th, coinciding with the start of ground operations.
Most of these evacuees have sought refuge in the humanitarian zone in the northwestern part of densely populated Rafah, home to approximately 1.4 million Palestinians.
Many of the displaced people had relocated from other areas since the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7th, 2023.
Today, the Israeli army issued orders for residents in additional areas of Rafah to move to the expanded humanitarian zone in the suburbs, signaling further advancement in its plans for a ground assault on Rafah.
Avichay Adraee, the army's spokesperson, urged residents and evacuees in Jabalia in northern Gaza and 11 neighborhoods in the sector to immediately head to shelters west of Gaza City.
