Three US troops have been killed during operations targeting Iran, according to a statement by US Central Command, as regional tensions sharply escalate.
The announcement came amid reports of extensive strikes on facilities in the Iranian capital, Tehran, carried out in what was described as a joint US-Israeli military campaign. The developments follow unverified claims circulating about the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during recent strikes, though no independent confirmation has been publicly provided.
According to the statement, the joint operations targeted Iranian military and command structures, while US President Donald Trump reportedly urged Iranian forces to lay down their arms and called on the Iranian people to rise against their government.
In response, Iran launched waves of ballistic missiles and drones toward US assets and allied targets across the region. Reports indicated strikes or attempted attacks involving Israel as well as locations in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.
Israel later said it carried out additional strikes on what it described as the “heart of Tehran,” while Iranian retaliatory attacks continued, raising fears of a broader regional confrontation.
