3 Killed, 5 Injured in Knife Attack in Germany

In a tragic incident on Friday, a knife attack at a street festival in Solingen, Germany, resulted in three fatalities and five severe injuries.

The attack occurred during the city's 650th anniversary celebration, leading to the immediate cancellation of the festival's remaining events.

The assailant targeted festivalgoers randomly at the Fronhof marketplace, where a live music stage was set up. Police responded swiftly, but the suspect managed to flee amidst the chaos.

Authorities have launched a significant manhunt and cordoned off large areas of the city, deploying heavily armed special units.

Local officials have urged residents to avoid the city center and stay indoors. 

North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Minister Herbert Reul is on-site, overseeing the response efforts.
