At least 29 people were killed and 60 others are missing as a result of the devastating floods that swept last Monday in southern Brazil.
The Metropolis newspaper quoted state Governor Eduardo Leyte as saying that the death toll due to the rains in Rio Grande do Sul had risen to 29 people. So far, 60 people are still missing.
Heavy rains began in the far south of Brazil, bordering Uruguay, last Monday, and the National Institute of Meteorology's forecast for parts of Rio Grande do Sul remains at the red alert level.
213 municipalities in the state have been affected so far, with floods, landslides and dam collapses reported.
The newspaper confirmed that 10,000 people became homeless.
