At least 25 people were injured and transported to a hospital after a Delta Airlines flight encountered severe turbulence, forcing an emergency landing in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
According to Bloomberg, the Airbus A330neo had been airborne for less than an hour into its scheduled nine-hour journey from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Amsterdam when the pilots were forced to divert due to dangerous flying conditions. The airline confirmed the incident in an official statement.
Delta stated that Flight DL 268 landed safely at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport following the unexpected turbulence. Emergency medical teams responded immediately to assist the injured passengers and crew.
The aircraft was carrying 275 passengers and 13 crew members at the time of the incident. Local hospitals received the injured individuals for further evaluation and treatment.
The airline has not yet released full details on the nature of the turbulence or the severity of injuries. However, such incidents have raised growing concerns about in-flight safety, especially amid increasing reports of weather-related disruptions linked to climate change.
The incident highlights the importance of always wearing seatbelts during flights, even when the seatbelt sign is off, as sudden turbulence can occur without warning.
Delta Airlines is cooperating with aviation authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the emergency landing.
