World Water Day is observed on 22 every year. It is a day to reflect on and take action to tackle the global water crisis.

The theme for the 2024 edition is 'Water for Peace', which emphasizes the need to cooperate on water to create a positive ripple effect that fosters harmony, generates prosperity, and builds resilience to shared challenges. Water is not only a resource to be used and competed over, but it is also a human right that is intrinsic to every aspect of life. Therefore, we need to unite around water and use it for peace, laying the foundations of a more stable and prosperous tomorrow.

To celebrate World Water Day 2024, UNESCO is hosting a pivot event at its headquarters in Paris, France, on March 22. The event will feature high-level speakers, experts, and cultural activities to express the concept of 'water and peace.'

The World Water Day pivot event traditionally serves as an occasion for the official launch of the annual World Water Development Report.

This year's edition is entitled "Water for Prosperity and Peace," and it will be made openly available immediately after the official launch. Director Elisabeth Lictevout will represent IGRAC during this event.

In 1993, World Water Day was created by the United Nations to raise awareness of the 2.2 billion people who live without access to safe water. This year's theme is "Leveraging Water for Peace."
