Two people were killed in separate Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon overnight and on Friday morning, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, amid continued cross-border escalation despite a ceasefire agreement.

In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry said an Israeli strike targeting a truck in the town of Mansouri, in the Tyre district, resulted in the death of one civilian. In a separate statement, it reported that another person was killed late Thursday after an Israeli airstrike hit a car in the town of Meifdoun in southern Lebanon.

The Israel Defense Forces did not immediately comment on Friday’s strike. However, in a statement issued overnight, the Israeli army said it had targeted a member of Hezbollah who was allegedly attempting to rebuild Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon.

Israel has continued to carry out airstrikes in Lebanon despite a ceasefire reached in November 2024, which brought an end to more than a year of hostilities. Israeli authorities say the strikes are aimed at Hezbollah fighters, facilities and weapons depots, stressing that they will not allow the group to restore its military capabilities following what Israel describes as heavy losses to Hezbollah’s arsenal and leadership during the war.

The renewed attacks have raised concerns over the durability of the ceasefire and the risk of further escalation along the Lebanese-Israeli border.
